About two weeks ago, I debuted an initiative that is very close to my heart. I mentioned it briefly in back in September but while it was still coming to fruition, I held back specifics. It’s time to take it wide now!
Brown Girls Garden, my organization dedicated to urban farming, community gardening, and expanding access to fresh foods and green “free” spaces in our communities, launched our “Lil Sprouts” Gardening Arts Program in partnership with Johnson Childcare Center/Johnson Youth Services during their weekly “Reading Rainbow” Reading Session and the kids are so excited to get started in their 10 bed garden on site and TWO greenhouses!
I’m their new “Creative Arts and Gardening Consultant” bridging arts, nutrition and appreciation for the earth and I couldn’t be more excited! #FarmerBella👩🏾🌾
Brown Girls Garden initiatives have the support of our PA State Rep Andre Carroll, elected in 2024. His office has been invaluable with their assistance to moving our programs forward and I look forward to working with him on additional projects and also with more up and coming legislators like him who are accessible on the ground, in tune with our community! We need more Andre Carrolls. Straight up.
Shout out to Andre and Lina for all their help!
This program will extend into grow season in Spring 2026 when I’ll also be renewing my 25-bed community garden, @phillywildgarden, where the kids and their families will also have access to free produce grown right in their community.
I can’t wait to expand into more green spaces and educational programs!
Come out and help us clear space, put down new beds, get them filled and put new seedlings down at my larger grow site @phillywildgarden in March and April! 👩🏾🌾
